Attendees should include elected officials, property owners, business owners, the non-profit community, local residents, community organizations, tourism officials, and economic development officials.

  • 11am - 1pm // The 5 Points of Pride Discussion
  • 1pm - 2pm // Lunch + Community Activity
  • 2pm - 4pm // Cultivating Pride Roundtables
  • 4pm - 5pm // The Civic Pride Campaign Plan

BACKGROUND

The towns we call home shape every aspect of our lives. The places we live dictate our social, mental and physical health. Over time, we become the places we inhabit.

Proud cities produce proud, engaged, civic minded residents that champion their community and tend to its well-being. Apathetic cities produce apathetic residents- residents that are disengaged, speak poorly of their community and care little about its future. This is not a result of people changing, but the effect of our places changing. We have dramatically reshaped our cities over the last half-century and in turn, those cities have dramatically reshaped their residents. We have created communities devoid of all the things that once made people proud and the results have been devastating. Pride is not a scarce resource and fortunately for struggling cities, it can be cultivated endlessly.

SPEAKER

Jeff Siegler has assisted hundreds of communities in their fight against apathy. He is an outspoken advocate on the power of place and how pride is what we desperately crave in our lives. What Jeff lacks in patience and eloquence, he makes up for in passion and honesty. He believes revitalizing communities is the most important work we can do. Cultivating civic pride has the power to transform people’s lives by fostering a stronger sense of community and giving people meaning in their place.

Jeff has dedicated himself to killing apathy- one town at a time.

OUTCOME

Building off of their new understanding of the effects of pride and apathy, attendees will develop a Civic Pride Campaign based on the 5 Points of Pride. The campaign will be fully formed by the end of the workshop, including project team leaders, team members, action items and accountability measures.
