Learn about the French influence upon Peoria's history!
WTVP-TV, in partnership with the Peoria Historical Society, will tape two half-hour programs about French history in the territory that would later become Illinois. A studio audience is invited to view the taping in the studio at WTVP-TV, 101 State St. from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, 2022.
Historians Charles Balesi and Todd Schwebel will discuss the early French influence, when Father Jacques Marquette and Louis Jolliet came up the Illinois River in 1673, and when France ceded control of Illinois to Great Britain by 1763. Balesi will also provide background on efforts to create a French Heritage Corridor through Illinois and beyond.
There is no charge for attendance, but audience members must obtain tickets in advance. Seating is limited. The first program will air on WTVP-TV on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 8 p.m. with the second show on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 8 p.m.
