Introduction to Letterpress and Relief Printing

Experience the fun and satisfaction of hand-printing your own cards, coasters and small prints on an antique printing press! In this four-week class, students will learn the basics of letterpress printing from metal and wood type, ornamental type, relief blocks and printer’s cuts. Students will learn how to plan a design, set type by hand, lock up a form, and operate a platen press. Students will have opportunities to experiment with two-color printing, ornamental designs, patterns and abstraction, as well as traditional printing methods. All materials will be provided. No prior printing experience needed.

We are committed to the health and safety of students, instructors and patrons, Our organization will be following recommended guidelines for Phase 4 of reopening: Anyone exhibiting symptoms will not be permitted in the building. Class sizes will be limited and workstations set up to allow 6 ft social distance between students and instructors. Masks are required for everyone. Each classroom will contain hand sanitizer and sanitizing stations.
