lecture: Modern in the Middle: Chicago Houses, 1929-1975

Thursday, March 14, 2024 • 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM CDT

Event Details

Michelangelo Sabatino will explore the substantial yet overlooked role that Chicago and its suburbs played in the development of the modern single-family house in the 20th century. In a city often associated with the outsize reputations of Frank Lloyd Wright and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, the examples discussed in this lecture expand and enrich the story of the region’s built environment.

Sabatino is a publicly engaged architectural historian, curator, and preservationist whose research and writing focuses on modern architecture and the built environment. As Professor of Architectural History and Preservation at IIT’s College of Architecture he directs the PhD program and is the inaugural John Vinci Distinguished Research Fellow.
