Look, I Made a Book! Easy Handmade Books

Each week this class will guide you step-by-step in the creation of a new basic book form. With each book, you will learn fundamental techniques for cutting and assembling book pages (signatures), creating book covers, and using glues and stitches to bind your books together. Your finished blank books can be used for poetry, sketching, collage, or any number of creative endeavors. And books make great gifts! No prior bookbinding experience needed.
Week 1 -- Folded Books
Week 2 -- Pamphlet Stitch Booklets
Week 3 -- Japanese Stab Binding
Week 4 -- Long Stitch Binding
Cost: $100
Monday evenings from 6-8 pm
June 7- June 28, 2021
Ages 16+
Materials: All bookmaking supplies included. Bookbinding tool kits (for those who wish to finish or continue projects at home) will be available for purchase for $15.
We are committed to the health and safety of students, instructors and patrons, Our organization will be following recommended guidelines from the Illinois Department of Public Health: Anyone exhibiting symptoms will not be permitted in the building. Class sizes will be limited and workstations set up to allow 6 ft social distance between students and instructors. Masks are required for everyone. Each classroom will contain hand sanitizer and sanitizing stations.
