After missing last year’s tours due to COVID, The 18th Annual Springdale Cemetery Tours make their return this October! Join us as Peoria's vast history comes to life in the setting of the beautiful Springdale Cemetery. This is a great fundraiser for the cemetery and historical event for the entire family!

During the tours, patrons will be guided on a short walk through a section of Springdale Cemetery to visit five different Peorians from the past. This year’s characters will include Dr. Daniel E. Bowers (1908-1994)- A prominent surgeon who was a former president of Methodist Medical Center staff and was very involved in the Shrine and served as the head of the Shrine of North America.

Lucie Brotherson Tyng – daughter of poet Frances Brotherson, President of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union and namesake of Tyng School.

Alexander Tyng (1827-1897)- husband of Lucie Brotherson Tyng, an affluent business man who served his community through his church, the public school board, among other philanthropic endeavors.

Willard B. Arnold (1921-2013)- A direct descendent of John Arnold, a prosperous accountant and treasurer, who was on the Board of Election Commissioners for the City of Peoria and spent time in Brazil where he was the Director Secretary of Tratores do Brasil SA.

Lovilla Aiken Proctor 1816-1881-Her husband and her were farmers, and Sister of “Uncle Mark” Aiken, an anti-slavery radical or abolitionist and he rang the Congregational church bell for every Union victory during the Civil War.

As always, tours will be held the first two weekends in October. Friday Oct 1st special twilight tour at 6:00pm. Saturday and Sunday tours 2nd-3rd and 9th-10th will be held at 12:00pm and 2:00pm.
